You already know the answer... so what's holding you back?

Last week, I left you with this question:

Where in your life are you still waiting for permission when, deep down, you already know the answer?

If I had to guess, it's probably fear.

Our brains evolved to keep us alive, not happy. Thousands of years ago, that meant avoiding predators. Today, fear activates upon change, uncertainty, or difficult conversations, as if they're just as dangerous. Our work isn't to eliminate fear; it's to teach our nervous system that discomfort isn't the same as danger.

This week, I planned to be in New York City for an entrepreneurial training. Planning the trip was easy. I booked my flight, reserved my hotel, shopped for cute outfits ... But as the trip got closer, fear started creeping in. I'd be traveling alone. I didn't know a single person attending. Would I be safe? Would I get lost? Would I be targeted as a tourist?

The funny thing is, NYC is a metaphor for so much more than a trip.

Whatever decision you're wrestling with, there's usually an easy part. You can research it, think about it, make a plan, buy the books, talk to friends, or prepare yourself in every possible way. But eventually, every meaningful decision reaches a sticking point where preparation is no longer enough. The only way forward is through.

I could have planned every detail of my trip to New York and canceled at the last minute because I was afraid. As silly as that sounds, it's exactly what I did in my marriage. For years, I knew something wasn't right. I prepared to leave countless times, only to back out because self-doubt and fear of judgment.

Until one day, I finally gave myself permission to do what I already knew I needed to do.

That decision wasn't easy, and it wasn't what everyone wanted. But it aligned with my values and the life I wanted to create for myself and my son.

Looking back, I realize the hardest part wasn't figuring out the answer.

It was trusting myself enough to follow through.

I'm proud to say I conquered my fear of traveling to NYC alone! I got through it one step at a time and let me tell you the "other side" feels damn good!

This trip wasn't just about attending a training or meeting incredible entrepreneurs. It was an investment in the future version of myself—the woman who trusts herself enough to walk through unfamiliar doors, who stops waiting until she feels completely ready, and who understands that meaningful growth almost always begins with discomfort.

As I walked through the busiest city in America, I kept thinking about so many of the women I work with.

They already know the answer.

They know the relationship isn't sustainable as it is. They know they have been abandoning themselves to keep the peace. They are craving something more honest, more connected, and more alive.

And yet stay stuck because of fear.

Afraid of making the wrong decision. Afraid of hurting the people they love. Afraid of what others might think. Afraid of who they'll have to become if they stop living according to everyone else's expectations.

I understand that fear.

But here's what New York reminded me: we don't become confident and then take the leap. We take the leap, and confidence grows because we discover we're so much more capable than we imagined.

So today, I want to leave you with a slightly different question:

You already know the answer... so what's holding you back?

Maybe your next brave step isn't boarding a plane to New York (maybe that sounds too easy for you!).

Maybe it's setting a boundary. Having an honest conversation. Saying what you really want, even if it's different from what everyone else wants. Starting the business you've been dreaming about. Going back to school. Investing in yourself. Choosing the path you've been quietly imagining for years.

Whatever your next step is, remember this:

You don't have to feel ready

You don't have to feel fearless.

You simply have to decide that fear no longer gets to drive the bus.

Because the woman you're becoming is built one courageous decision at a time.
